Broadband access market revenue to reach $12 billion by 2019: Dell’Oro Group
According to Dell’Oro Group, broadband access market, including passive optical network (PON), digital subscriber line (DSL) and cable, is expected to achieve revenues of about $12 billion by 2019.
The research firm forecasts that there will be continued growth in the cable and PON markets through 2019, while the DSL market will decline over this period. The growth in the cable market will be driven by DOCSIS 3.1 upgrades while strong demand for PON will continue to come from service providers in China. In addition to China, service providers in other countries too will make significant investments in PON technology and equipment.
Dell’Oro Group concludes that PON technologies are also expected to gain further market share as time and wavelength division multiplexed (TWDM)-PON is likely be used for applications beyond residential broadband, including mobile backhaul and business services.
