Energy Consumption at Telecom Towers: Intelligent Energy
Viewpoint , July 05, 2012
One of the biggest challenges faced by the rapidly growing telecom tower industry in India is unreliable electrical grid supply. Today, on average, 70 per cent of the approximately 400,000 mobile towers in India face electrical grid outages in excess of eight hours a day.
Telecom tower operators currently depend on diesel generators, batteries, and a variety of power management equipment to address the demand-supply gap. The resulting energy costs alone account for 25 percent of the total network operating costs, affecting the profitability of the operators.
Intelligent Energy analyses the energy consumption at telecom towers and the effect of various energy alternatives on the industry, the environment and the economy.
