Big Move: Huawei's enterprise foray

October 31, 2011

Huawei has made its foray into the enterprise services market in India with the launch of its enterprise business unit in the country. This will be a key area of focus for the company in the coming years. Towards this end, Huawei plans to increase its workforce for this business segment to 400 by end-2012. Its enterprise business unit accounted for 8 per cent of its $28 billion global revenues in 2010. The company expects to clock revenues of $15 billion by 2015 from this segment alone globally.

Announcing the launch of the Indian chapter of its enterprise business, Eric Yu, president, enterprise business, Huawei India said, “This segment is becoming increasingly important here and associated IT applications are undergoing dramatic changes. In light of this, the launch of Huawei’s new enterprise products coincides with the growing interest of companies to set up next-generation information and communication technology (ICT) architecture. As part of our expansion plans here, Huawei will focus on providing ICT solutions for the transport, energy, telecom and finance sectors.”

To achieve this, the company plans to tie up with system integration companies such as Wipro and AGC Networks to provide network-based products to clients in these sectors.

Huawei has also introduced telepresence services (real-time video-conferencing) in the country. It expects this to give a boost to its business in India. “We have developed the telepresence video-conferencing unit, which can fundamentally change the board-room meeting culture. It has been designed to include powerful processing capabilities to render the best possible audio and video as well as state-of-the-art reliability, security and cost-effective technologies,” Yu stated.

Prior to this, in December 2010, Huawei had said that it plans to invest $2 billion in India over five years, including setting up a research and development centre.
