We welcome the hike in FDI in telecom from the current 49 per cent to 74 per cent. In addition to bringing in large investments, this will also facilitate inflow of technology as well as value-adding solutions and services, not only for households but also for small and large businesses. The rising inflow of investment, technology and value-adding solutions and services will have a positive impact not only on telecom and related industries, but also on all commercial, agricultural and industrial sectors for which telecommunication is fast becoming a major contributor in improving efficiency and productivity. Now that the regulatory concerns would be much less, investment opportunities in telecom in India are sure to get higher priority with potential international investors.
