BSNL had net losses of Rs 70.8 billion during 2013-14
The Ministry of Communications and IT has stated that the state-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has reduced in its net losses from Rs 78.84 billion for 2012-13 to Rs 70.85 billion for 2013-14. The net loss in 2011-12 stood at Rs 88.51 billion. Meanwhile, the company’s landline business suffered a loss of Rs 149.79 billion in 2013-14.
The Ministry of Communications and IT is currently preparing a financial revival plan for the telecom operator along with a comprehensive human resource restructuring for the company, for which details are yet to be finalised.
The government has already undertaken measures to improve its landline business with redeployment of workforce with more focus on sales, distribution and customer care activities. Moreover, the operator has taken steps to retain and enhance the landline connectivity by increasing penetration of broadband. Apart from this, sales and marketing of the company has been strengthened by having exclusive channel management team consisting of 4,500 exclusive sales representatives. The firm has also introduced call detail record based billing, commercial and fault repair service and work order management system to improve its businesses.
