Amit Dhingra, Head, Global Services India, Nokia Siemens Networks

March 01, 2012

Amit Dhingra, Head, Global Services Indi...
As head of Nokia Siemens Networks’ (NSN) global services for the India region, Amit Dhingra oversees the regional management of network-centric operations that are outsourced by operators to NSN. “It includes managing networks on a daily basis and providing managed services and network care support. My role is essentially to enable operators to roll out their networks.”

To get these jobs done, Dhingra pursues a participatory style of management. He believes in delegating and working together as a team. “My personal leadership style is inclusive, visionary and one that encourages teamwork. I spend a lot of time coaching and managing people to set clear goals and set a rhythm. This ensures that the entire team is aligned to a set of common goals and visions of both the business and the organisation.”

Dhingra brings to the table over 17 years of experience in diverse telecom markets across Europe and Asia Pacific. He began his career with Siemens PCN Limited India, where he worked in the network planning function. This stint took him to Germany. He also played a role in the merger between Siemens Communications and Nokia Networks. “During the merger, I was entrusted with the responsibility of integrating the managed services function at NSN and post the merger, to lead the strategy and business development function for NSN Germany’s global services. In this role, I was responsible for developing the strategy and long-term plans for the services function worldwide, including the strategic directions, financials and regional impacts,” Dhingra notes.

Though he has been a part of several challenging assignments, Dhingra feels the role he played during the merger of Siemens Communications and Nokia Networks was the most exciting. “At the time, I led the integration of the managed services function. It was memorable as it provided me with the opportunity to understand the finer details, in terms of processes and business aspects from the respective companies’ viewpoint. This helped me design and define new business processes, which embodied the best of both the companies, keeping in mind the practical aspects at the ground level,” he says, adding, “My current assignment is equally exciting and challenging due to its vast spread in terms of portfolio and reach.”

So, in the midst of all this, does he find time for a breather? “Yes,” he says. “In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and playing and watching cricket.”
