BSNL has awarded Nortel Networks a contract worth an estimated Rs 25 billion to expand its GSM/GPRS digital wireless network in south India. The expansion is expected to be completed by the first half of 2005. Under the contract, Nortel will deploy an end-toend GSM and GPRS solution, including GSM radio base stations, mobile switching centres, intelligent networks and other related equipment to provide wireless voice and data services with carrier-grade network reliability.
