SK Telecom of Korea has launched its WCDMA automatic roaming service in Italy and France in a joint effort with TIM, the number one mobile service provider in Italy, and SFR, the second largest mobile communications carrier in France. This is the first time that SK Telecom will launch the WCDMA roaming service in Europe, where CDMA automatic roaming service is not available. Like the existing CDMA automatic roaming service, SK Telecom subscribers travelling to these countries can now send and receive WCDMA cellular calls while using the same number and handset (SCH-W120) they use in Korea. Last June, SK Telecom launched a commercial WCDMA automatic roaming service (including video telephony roaming service) in Japan in a joint effort with Vodafone k.k., in Hong Kong last July, and in Singapore last August.
