Motorola proposes to set up a manufacturing facility in India
September 15, 2005
Motorola is proposing to set up a manufacturing facility in India if this becomes a precondition to bidding for tenders floated by public sector companies such as BSNL. The company is looking at investing about $100 million over the next three years for this purpose. According to a recent government policy, vendors will need to have a local manufacturing base in order to bid for tenders of telecom PSUs, and since BSNL alone is close to finalising a tender worth Rs 130 billion for its 40 million GSM mobile project, companies like Motorola, Nokia and Lucent will find it worth their while to set up manufacturing facilities.
