France Telecom (FT) has been granted an internet service provider (ISP) licence by DoT. The French company had obtained national and international long distance licences (NLD and ILD) in 2008. Currently, the company's licences in India are held through its wholly owned subsidiary – Orange Business Services, which in turn, holds 74 per cent stake in the Indian entity, Global One Indian. However, the ISP application was made under Equant Network Services. Earlier, FT had told the government that it wanted to consolidate all its Indian operations under a single licence and therefore, Global One would surrender its licences after the government approved the application by Equant Network Services.
