The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has sought the communications and IT ministry's intervention to ensure that no private player is allowed to launch EVDO services without 3G spectrum being made available to all operators. COAI has stated that one of the CDMA operators is reportedly in the process of launching EVDO wireless data cards. According to the association, the launch of EVDO (which is a 3G service) will be unfair to GSM operators as CDMA operators have enough spectrum to offer 2G as well as 3G services, and that this can result in a gross violation of the concept of a level playing field.
