TRAI has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal's (TDSAT) ruling that rejected the regulator's tariff order proposing to put a ceiling on cable service charges across the country. Stating that the tribunal's verdict will have a major impact on consumers and on the broadcasting and cable TV services industry, TRAI has told the Supreme Court that the tariff order which had been in existence for more than a year should be continued as it had been successfully implemented.

While a Supreme Court bench has refused to put a stay on the TDSAT order, it has directed the parties to maintain status quo till February 27, 2009, the notified date of hearing.
