The communications and IT ministry has decided to reject the finance ministry's demands to double the floor price for 3G and wireless broadband (Wi-Max) spectrum. The finance ministry had demanded that bids for pan-Indian 3G and Wi-Max spectrum start at Rs 40.4 billion and Rs 20.2 billion respectively. According to sources, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) did not want any further increase in the base price, as the move would reduce interest in 3G auctions. DoT is also of the view that doubling the base price will increase the cost of 3G services, making them more expensive for consumers.
