China Mobile has completed the second round of bidding for TDSCDMA wireless network equipment worth around $4.4 billion.

Datang Mobile, the patent holder of the TD-SCDMA technology, and its affiliates and subsidiaries including Datang Mobile, Alcatel-Shanghai Bell, Fiberhome and New Postcom, won a combined 35 to 40 per cent share of the bid, with Datang Mobile winning over 25 per cent. ZTE won 28 per cent of the bid, Huawei 17-18 per cent, NSN 8 per cent, China Putian (Potevio) 6 per cent and Ericsson 4.5 per cent. Reportedly, China Mobile will begin its third round of TD-SCDMA equipment bidding in March 2009, with a goal to cover 162 additional cities. In the second phase of expansion, China Mobile's 3G service will be extended to 28 more cities, taking the mobile operator's coverage to 38 cities by mid-2009.
