Communications and IT Minister A. Raja has given the go-ahead to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) recommendations stating that telecom operators should pay for spectrum beyond 6.2 MHz. The proposal, however, has to be cleared by the Telecom Commission before it is taken forward. The issue has been a bone of contention between GSM and CDMA operators, as both parties have expressed strong views and have also approached the prime minister for resolution of the matter.
