News , July 15, 2008

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has floated a Rs 2.5 billion tender for setting up an IP-based MPLS infrastructure network. This will allow MTNL to introduce additional services such as bandwidth-on-demand, TV broadcasting (with a minimum of 5,000 channels [SDTV as well as HDTV]) and voice over IP over the same network. The deployment of the MPLS network will also enable MTNL to transform its legacy time division multiplexing network into one that will support additional services such as next-generation networks, 3G and VPNs.
