DoT is reportedly examining Idea Cellular's merger deal with Spice Communications and is likely to ask the company to submit its circle-wise spectrum details along with those of Spice. According to DoT's subscriber-based spectrum allocation norms, the IdeaSpice merged entity will have to refund 4.4 MHz spectrum in Karnataka and 6.2 MHz in Andhra Pradesh. In a related development, Spice Communications has been granted permission to withdraw its suit filed against DoT before the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, challenging DoT's move of rejecting Spice's demand for a pan-Indian GSM licence.
