The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is likely to approve DoT's request for additional funds to set up a separate telecom network for the defence services. DoT had asked the CCEA for an allotment of Rs 10.77 billion to complete the first phase of the alternative fibre network project after the finance ministry allocated a mere Rs 1.52 billion in the 2008-09 budget.
The project is being undertaken by BSNL, which has already spent over Rs 5 billion but has not received any financial grant.
