The government is considering exempting Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) from paying licence fee on its rural fixed line operations. The move is likely to result in savings of Rs 4 billion annually for the company. This move comes close on the heels of the government's decision to stop subsidising BSNL's rural operations with effect from April 2008.
