The minister for communication and IT, Dayanidhi Maran, has commented that the spectrum recommendations by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) came 18 months after the government had asked it to look into the matter. Also, some of the recommendations were outside the specified terms of reference. These comments are believed to be in response to TRAI's recommendation that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) constitute a group of ministers to oversee spectrum allocation. The minister expressed his confidence in the wireless planning coordination (WPC) wing of DoT, which has 50 years' experience in dealing with such issues.
