The Indian Cellular Association (ICA) is likely to approach the finance ministry and DoT for a 26 per cent reduction in duties on mobile phone accessories. The current customs duty on mobile phone accessories including batteries, chargers, Bluetooth and hands-free devices is 34 per cent. The ICA wants this reduced to 8 per cent. According to the ICA, the reduction will make the accessories more affordable and hence help to reduce the market for fake batteries.
