Operators approach TRAI to reconsider its order on ADC levy on roaming calls

News , May 15, 2005

Cellular and unified telecom operators have approached TRAI to reconsider its recent order on the access deficit charge (ADC) levy on roaming calls. The operators are asserting that the stakeholders must be consulted before carrying out any such order.

Earlier this month, TRAI had redefined norms and stated that all national roaming calls made by subscribers in a different service area would be treated as STD calls. A levy of Re 0.30 per minute would be charged on such calls. International roaming calls would be treated as incoming international calls and an ADC of Rs 3.25 per minute would be levied. Cellular operators fear their margins will be under pressure. They had earlier threatened to go to the TDSAT over the issue.
