Bharti Airtel, which is part of the global Fixed Mobile Convergence Alliance (FMCA), will introduce FMC service by the end of 2007.
The service will enable customers to use a single phone with a common number for both mobile and fixed line calls. The technology will also benefit mobile operators, since transferring the call traffic to fixed lines reduces the pressure on spectrum. Other members of the FMCA include British Telecom, Malaysia-based Maxis Communications, China Telecom, Motorola, AT&T and Huawei.
