TRAI has slashed the prices of domestic leased lines by up to 70 per cent

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has slashed the prices of domestic leased lines by up to 70 per cent. The ceiling tariff for 64 kbps, 128 kbps and 256 kbps has been reduced by 54 per cent to Rs 44,000, Rs 79,000 and Rs 140,000 respectively. The prescribed ceiling tariff will come into effect from May 1. The ceiling tariff for E1 (2 Mbps speed) has been cut by 3 per cent to Rs 850,000, from the existing Rs 880,000. The tariff for DS-3 (45 Mbps) has been reduced by 67 per cent to Rs 6.2 million, and for STM-1 (155 Mbps), the charges have been slashed by 70 per cent to Rs 16.5 million. The new tariffs are ceiling tariffs; operators are at liberty to offer lower rates.
