The Ministry of Communications and IT has reorganised the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)'s Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing in order to expedite the clearance and issue of 74 pending applications for universal access service licences. The delay has been a cause of concern not only for DoT, but also for applicants such as Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL), Idea Cellular and Spice Telecom whose applications have been pending.
Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL), for instance, has applied for 21 new unified access licences.
