The Ministry of Defence has questioned DoT's statement assuring telecom operators that 40 MHz of spectrum would be vacated by July 2007. According to the ministry, the army will require an alternative fibre network in order to shift to a different spectrum band. This is a two-year project, worth Rs 40 billion. However, so far, DoT has only sanctioned Rs 9.8 billion with no indication yet about additional allocation.
