Huawei is reportedly the frontline contender to bag Reliance Communications' $1 billion mobile equipment contract. It is reportedly the lowest bidder, ahead of companies like Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent. Reliance is looking to procure GSM and CDMA network equipment in order to install 30 million mobile lines in 8,000 cities and towns across the country. A final decision on the deal was expected by the end of April 2007.
