MTNL has floated a Rs 2.1 billion tender to procure broadband access network equipment for Delhi and Mumbai, which is expected to be awarded in May. The company plans to expand its broadband services including internet connectivity and other value-added services like virtual private networks (VPNs), video multicast, and video-on-demand over DSL lines. MTNL has targeted to achieve 500,000 broadband users by the end of financial year 2007-08. Currently, the company has around 300,000 broadband subscribers and a waiting list of 18,000 and 8,000 subscribers in Mumbai and Delhi respectively.
