Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) plans to expand its services to another 1,000 towns in financial year 2007-08 and has earmarked an investment of Rs 35 billion for the same. The company has also applied for licences to operate services in Jammu & Kashmir and the northeast. It has also entered into an open distribution partnership with Motorola to offer its customers low-cost CDMA mobile handsets. Moreover, TTSL will hive off its capital-intensive towers business and is looking for partners to operate the venture. So far, Temasek Holdings and Crown Castle International have expressed their interest in purchasing 15 per cent stake in the soon-to-be-hived-off cellular tower business.
