Bharti Airtel approves Augere Wireless Broadband’s merger
Bharti Airtel has stated that its board of directors has approved the merger of the Augere Wireless Broadband India with the company. The operator had announced its decision to acquire the firm in August 2015. The acquisition is presently subject to the necessary statutory and regulatory approvals.
Augere Wireless holds 20 MHz of spectrum in the 2300 MHz band in the Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circle. The company had bought this spectrum in 2010 for an estimated Rs 1.25 million. The company, however, has not launched its services in India and has only tested a pilot wireless network based on long term evolution (LTE) technology in Madhya Pradesh. The merger of Augere Wireless will help Bharti Airtel expand its 4G footprint in the country.
