Bharti Airtel completes the sale of towers in Burkina Faso to Eaton Towers

October 28, 2015

Bharti Airtel has concluded the sale of its tower assets in Burkina Faso to African telecom tower company, Eaton Towers. With this sale, Eaton towers has now acquired 2,500 towers from Bharti Airtel in four countries; Ghana, Uganda and Kenya and Burkina Faso.

In 2015, Bharti Airtel has completed the sale of around 9,000 telecom towers in eight African countries. Earlier, the operator had sold 8,300 telecom towers in seven African countries for $1.7 billion. The operator has around 12,500 towers in the continent.

The company has stated that sale and lease back of towers shall continue to remain a strategic priority in all its operating countries across Africa, and accordingly the balance towers will also be disposed over a period of time. The proceeds from the recent sale of the towers will be used for reducing the company’s debt.
