Delhi HC seeks responses from NDMC and RJIL on Indus Towers’ petition
The Delhi High Court (HC) has sought responses from New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited on a petition filed by Indus Towers seeking direction to the civic body not to grant authorisation for setting up Wi-Fi networks at street poles to any company without informing the court or issuing a tender. Indus Towers also asked the high court to direct Indus Towers to provide information on authorizations given till date.
In its petition, Indus Towers had stated that NDMC had permitted RJIL to set up Wi-Fi sites at 750 street poles. Subsequently, the municipal corporation floated a tender to award contract to provide Wi-Fi service by setting up network at street poles, in which Indus Towers emerged as the successful bidder in February 2015. However, NDMC scrapped the tender after it was challenged by RJIL in the high court.
