TRAI directed to penalise operators encouraging call drops, says telecom ministry

News , September 28, 2015

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has stated that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been directed to penalise any operator encouraging call drop.

To this end, TRAI will start testing the networks in the Delhi and Mumbai circles from September 28, 2015 to ascertain whether operators have taken measures to address the call drops issue.

Earlier, the regulator had floated a discussion paper in this regard. The first round of consultations was completed on September 21, 2015 and it is currently open for counter comments. On September 28, 2015 the counter comments will be closed. TRAI would then hold an open house discussion on October 1, 2015. Thereafter, it is likely to take about a week to come out with the final policy on the issue.
