Bharti Airtel shifts its prepaid customers to per second bill plan
Bharti Airtel has decided to move all its prepaid mobile customers to the per second bill plan. The plan has been rolled out under the operator’s ‘Pay For What You Use’ initiative.
As per the new initiative, the operator’s standard base rate plans will be now be based on a pulse rate of per second. In addition to this, the customers will have the freedom to opt for additional tariff discount packs of their choice for discounted per second or per minute benefits.
A majority of Bharti Airtel’s customers were already on the per second bill plan. The new initiative is aimed at ensuring that the operator’s entire prepaid subscriber base is moved to the per second plan. The plan will help ensure that customers pay only for the time they use the Airtel network.
The move comes after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) floated a consultation paper, seeking views of the stakeholders on a proposal to compensate the consumers for call drops. As per TRAI’s proposal, users should not be charged for any call that gets dropped within five seconds. If a call gets dropped after five seconds, the last pulse of the call that got dropped should not be charged.
