Call drop issue will be resolved by October 2015, says telecom ministry

News , September 18, 2015

The Ministry of Communications and IT has stated that the issue of rising instances of call drops in the country is expected to be resolved in a month’s time.

Further, the Ministry has stated that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will examine how the operators need to optimise their networks in order to address this issue. The ministry has advised the operators not to support the growing demand for data services at the cost of voice.

Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has already initiated a consultation process to ascertain whether the operators need to monetarily compensate the consumers for system-generated call drops. TRAI had also given the operators 15 days to improve their networks in the Delhi and Mumbai circles, after which the regulator will carry out a test drive to see whether the call drops in these circles are within the permissible limits.
