TRAI to start a consultation on regular tracking of network quality of telecom operators

News , September 07, 2015

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will soon start a consultation on regular tracking of network quality of telecom operators. The move comes with the view to provide customers with information regarding the quality of services (QoS) provided by various operators in a particular area.

At present, TRAI comes out with status of QoS at the telecom circle level. Under the consultation, TRAI is considering making it mandatory for telecom operators to disclose their network capacities periodically. Meanwhile, the regulator wants to formulate a dashboard, wherein the data collected by operators will be put on a map and the customers will be able to see the status of QoS in a particular area.

Recently, TRAI has begun a consultation on a compensation mechanism for call drops and is seeking comments from key stakeholders. This had come after consumers at various forums had raised the issue of call drops stating that their experience of making voice calls has deteriorated over the past year.
