Uninor initiates its Rs 12 billion modernisation program
Uninor has initiated the roll-out of its Rs 12 billion ($200 million) network upgradation project, which aims at making the operator’s networks future-ready.
Recently in August 2015, Uninor had tied up with Huawei to take care of the implementation and maintenance of the network comprising 24,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) across the country. As part of the deal, Huawei will ‘swap’ all of its existing 3,305 base stations in the Andhra Pradesh circle (AP and Telangana) with the ‘future-ready’ equipment. The new equipment is expected to help the company reduce its carbon emissions by at least 30 per cent.
The overall modernization of the newtork is expected to take three years; however, half of the BTS are likely to become future-ready by end-2015 or early 2016.
