News , August 31, 2015

Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) launches its 4G Wi-Fi internet service called ‘Jionet’ at select locations in Bhubaneswar. This comes as part of Odisha government’s initiative to convert Bhubaneswar into a ‘smart city’.

The service is presently available at four locations - Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Surya Nagar, Gopabandhu Chowk and Governor House Road. Initially, this service will be offered free of cost for individual customers till the commercial launch of RJIL’s 4G services.

RJIL has installed a total of 27 access points across various locations, and maximum 1,000 concurrent users will be able to connect to the service at a time. The company will use the end users’ feedback on the overall experience and network to improve on its services. Once RJIL commercially launches its LTE service, its Wi-Fi and LTE networks will operate seamlessly with each other.
