PM calls for immediate action to address the call drop issue

News , August 25, 2015

The Prime Minister (PM) of India, Narendra Modi, has directed officials to resolve issues related to call drops urgently.

The direction came after PM’s review of the performance of infrastructure sectors in the country. He expressed concern over the prolonged issue of call drops and enquired officials about the steps undertaken to resolve the issue. He directed them to take immediate steps to resolve the problem, and also to ensure that the problems in voice connectivity do not extend to data connectivity in the future.

Currently, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is already in the process of examining the actions undertaken by operators to reduce the instances of call drop. The regulator also plans to launch a consultation paper to devise a broader mechanism to address this problem.

Meanwhile, PM has also asked officials to explore the possibility of leveraging existing resources, including railway and other communication infrastructure, to provide mobile connectivity in remote, unconnected areas.
