The Internet and Mobile Associtaion of India (IAMAI) has submitted its suggestions on the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) committee report on net neutrality. IAMAI has said that it is clearly and unambiguously opposed to zero rating plans of any type. The industry body is of the view that these plans will ultimately affect the industry by limiting competition among companies. The latter will also limit choices for consumers.

Further, IAMAI believes that these plans will allow the operators to discriminate against certain web services over others and will throttle innovation. The association has also opposed the suggestion that domestic voice over internet protocol (VoIP) service should be regulated as suggested by the DoT report. The association has said that regulating one type of internet service may lead to a demand for regulating the other internet services.

The stakeholders were supposed to submit their comments on the department’s report on net neutrality by August 20, 2015. The government will announce the final regulations on the issue after considering public opinion and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s suggestions.
