TRAI to start the consultation process to resolve the issue of call drops

News , August 23, 2015

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is set to start the consultation process to resolve the issue of call drops. The consultation paper will seek a disincentive mechanism for call drops and will be open for suggestions from key stakeholders.

TRAI is also examining whether any tariff plans offered by telecom operators incentivise call drops, or benefit the operators. The regulator has sought the necessary information from operators for the same. This comes after DoT directed TRAI to examine the tariff plans of operators to ascertain whether they incentivise call drops.

The telecom operators have refuted these charges, stating that due to per-minute billing, operators do not earn revenue from call drops. The industry is of the view that lack of mobile towers and spectrum has led to increased call drops.
