Telecom associations Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India (AUSPI) have said that the telecom operators are ready to partner with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in the latter’s initiative to allay the apprehensions of adverse effects on health due to electromagnetic frequency (EMF) radiations from mobile towers. The operators are ready to undertake joint initiatives such as advertisements for the same.
The operators are of the view that the radiation norms in India are one-tenth of the global standards. Also, the radiations from mobile towers are non-ionising, which are harmless. Hence, there is a need to dispel fears about tower radiations.
The move comes in the backdrop of DoT’s directive to operators to submit weekly reports on the problem of call drops. The operators have often cited the lack of mobile towers as the main reason behind this problem and have requested the government for a uniform telecom policy to resolve the issue.
