UK-based internet service provider (ISP), New Call Telecom, is planning to acquire three-four companies in the software and infrastructure segments to support its over-the-top (OTT) services in India. The company has earmarked an investment of Rs 19.20 billion for the same.
Earlier, in 2014, New Call had acquired the messaging app Nimbus. It had also acquired the Delhi-based Ozone Networks, but the deal is awaiting Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval.
The company is in talks with telecom operators for Wi-Fi offloading and is also aiming for the Bengaluru Airport Wi-Fi project. The company has deployed 6,500 access points and 1,500 public hotspots in 26 cities. It aims to reach one million hotspots by 2020.
