A report published by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in conjunction with Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) has noted that out of 269 million internet users in the country, 127 million consume content in local languages. Of these 127 million, 81 million are from the rural areas.
IAMAI has recommended increasing websites and apps in local languages for better access to the masses. It has also recommended that corporates should rollout holistic local language solutions, including website, digital media, call centers, analytics, logistics and outbound communications, aimed at local language users.
It is estimated that with local language content, internet user base will rise by 39 per cent, out of which 75 per cent growth will come from rural areas and 16 per cent from urban regions.
