Idea Cellular reports a 28 per cent rise in profit for the quarter ended June 2015

July 22, 2015

Idea Cellular has posted financial results for the quarter ended June 2015. The consolidated net profit of the operator has increased by around 28 per cent to Rs 9.31 billion compared to Rs 7.3 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Revenues for the operator grew from Rs 75.61 billion for the quarter ended June 2014 to Rs 87.98 billion for the same quarter in 2015. The gross revenue growth was primarily driven by active subscriber additions, expansion of voice minutes and high mobile data (2G and 3G) volume growth. The company has stated that the revenue figures for this quarter are not comparable to earlier quarters due to changes in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Interconnect regulations, which came in to effect from March 1, 2015, primarily reducing mobile incoming interconnection usage charges (IUC) from Rs 0.20 to Rs 0.14 per minute.

Further, the company’s average revenue per user (ARPU) stood at Rs 182 compared to Rs 181 in the same quarter of 2014. However, average voice realisation per minute (ARPM) fell sharply by 11.2 per cent on year-on-year basis to Rs 0.33 per minute.  The company expanded its consolidated earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortiaation (EBIDTA) margin to 36.7 per cent from 33.1 per cent in the year-ago period.
