Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) India has approached the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to intervene in the matter of delayed purchase of equipment by Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). This comes after MTNL has yet not placed purchase order on Nokia’s 2G and 3G network equipment, despite emerging as the lowest bidder for MTNL’s Rs 11.39 billion GSM expansion project in February 2014.
NSN has already submitted a Rs 492 million bank guarantee in March 2015 and has made arrangements with its own factories and third-party component suppliers to ensure timely deliveries of 2G and 3G networks to the state-run telecom operator.
Under the terms of the contract, NSN India is to supply a mix of 2G and 3G gear as well as radio access network and intelligent network systems. It is also to supply close to 2,500 base stations towards the upgradation and expansion of MTNL's GSM networks.
