Sterlite Technologies plans to invest Rs 4 billion to expand its optic fibre network capacity

Sterlite Technologies is planning to invest up to Rs 4 billion for expanding its optical fibre cable (OFC) network to 30 million kilometer from the current capacity of 22 million kilometer. The company plans to tap a significant portion of the OFC demand arising from the BharatNet project. It estimates the total OFC requirement of the program at 50 million kilometers.  The company has been expanding its OFC network in anticipation of demand for more internet connectivity. India has seen a doubling of data demand year-on-year for the past three years.

Sterlite is focusing on enhancing its manufacturing capacity and adding capabilities in terms of network design and engineering, etc. It plans to play the role of optical fibre manufacturer, network creator, network designer, network manager and, provide specialised services.
