Vodafone invested Rs 3 billion in augmentation of network and distribution in Karnataka in 2014-15
Vodafone India invested over Rs 3 billion in upgrading the telecom network and distribution network in the Karnataka circle between April 2014 and March 2015.
According to the company, it added over 400 new base transceiver stations (BTS) and 67 retail touch points. With this expansion, Vodafone has over 9,250 2G sites reaching out to customers in over 13,850 towns and villages in the state, covering about 76 per cent of the region’s population. The company is also providing 3G roaming experience for its customers across an additional 161 towns in Karnataka.
Vodafone has also increased the penetration of its mobile money transfer services, M-Pesa. According to the company, mobile Internet continues to be a key strategic growth driver for this circle. Data revenues in the circle have grown by 68 per cent, year-on-year and now contributes to 17 per cent of total service revenues of Karnataka Circle.
