BSNL and MTNL seek extension of deadline for implementing nation-wide MNP beyond July 4
State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar telephone Nigam Limited have approached the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to extend the deadline of July 4, 2015 to implement nation-wide mobile number portability across India. According to the operators, they would not be able to complete technical changes to their networks due to changes in national numbering plan (NNP) in the given timeline and require some more time.
Meanwhile, DoT has reportedly stated that private telecom operators are ready to meet the given deadline for rolling out nation-wide MNP. Earlier in April 2015, the Cellular Operators Association of India had also sought an extension for implementing nationwide MNP beyond May 3, 2015 deadline as the operators required more time to put in place the system required.
