Ministry of Communications and IT pushes pan-India MNP deadline to July 2015
June 03, 2015
The Ministry of Communications and IT has announced that full mobile number portability (MNP) in the country will become available from July 2015. The rollout of pan-India MNP, a key objective of the National Telecom Policy 2012, has been facing delays for a long time as telecom operators have not yet completed the testing of the necessary software. The earlier deadline for MNP was May 3, 2015.
Full MNP will allow customers to retain their existing mobile phone number while relocating to any part of the country, unlike the present arrangement which allows users to retain phone numbers only within a circle.
